Distance learning in whichever medium is not a new idea as it has been practiced since the turn of the last century. The old correspondence school has gained new life with the advent of the Internet with advantageously extended "richness" and "reach" (Weigel, 2000).
These online programs are not an alternative for those who can not attend a traditional education program, they are rather designed for adults who have specific goals and limited available time.
Many online programs lacked uniformity in the quality level of Educational Programs in the past, in contrast, modern online programs are designed to be more focused and purposeful. Advancement in the quality and scope of learning management systems (LMS) can be credited towards this modern shift in our programs. Few other reasons given, include greater availability of online courses, an increased demand for additional training and/or degrees used for career advancement, increased Internet access to the point of ubiquity, and increased time pressure that individuals face. Students or professionals pursuing their education may use former commuting time for active learning.
